Charity job lights up Suited for Success
A BIG THANK YOU to Dodd Group and Galliford Try for supporting Suited for Success with the FREE installation of much needed electrical sockets and additional lighting in the changing room area at our referral centre in Hockley, Birmingham. Dodd Group managers Steve and Josh took two days out of their normal day job currently working on a construction project at the University of Birmingham drilling and fitting at Suited for Success whilst meeting volunteers, seeing client makeovers and getting a real insight into the work we do.
Landmark construction at University of Birmingham...
Dodd Group are the electrical sub-contractors working with construction group Galliford Try plc who are building an 172-bed hotel and conference facility for University of Birmingham. The £26 million pound project will offer increased flexibility for conferences and other events, including weddings, with rooms able to be configured to hold anywhere between 20 and 200 delegates.
The plans also include the regeneration of Garth House, a Grade II* listed building, and Hornton Grange as part of the work to preserve them for future generations. Garth House, an Arts and Crafts house, was built in 1900, and Hornton Grange in 1928. Both buildings form part of the University’s existing conference facilities.
Free materials...
ALL the materials for the charity job st Suited for Success were also kindly provided free of charge by national electrical suppliers Edmundson Electricals and a scaffolding tower provided free of charge by VP Tower Hire.
Working Together...
When Suited for Success secured the lease for the property in Hockley in August 2016 the centre was just an empty shell with no flooring, ventilation, lighting and electricity sockets in the main part of the centre.
After securing a number of small grants the centre was transformed and opened in January 2107, however more funding was needed to install additional lighting and electrical work. The in-kind generousity and support from the Dodd Group and Galliford Try has been priceless.
